I have just finished packing all of my gear, food for the first week and a days worth of water into my pack. It just barely fit (read: bursting at the seams, which hopefully won't happen). Grand total... drum roll please... 50lbs. Yikes! About 11lbs of that is food, 4 lbs is water, but still I was really hoping for substantially less weight. Over the next two weeks I will hopefully be able to figure out what it is that I do not need. At that point I will be able to drop off stuff at my parents house, only just to pick up more! Because this is a new endeavor for me I guess this is part of the learning curve.
Now it's off to bed for what I hope will be a descent nights sleep (please don't text me Happy New Years @ midnight. Seriously!). I will wake up at 5:30 am for a 6:00 am departure time. With luck I'll step off into the great unknown (kinda) by 10:00. This may be my last post for a few days... So Happy New Years!
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wanted to text you from Chuck's at midnight, but weren't sure you'd have service. Now I'm glad we didn't, seeing your schedule for yourself this morning! Hope the hike is off to a good start & the pack isn't weighing you down too much!

ReplyDeleteHope you got off to a good start. Word goes out to you across Sethation Nation.
ReplyDeleteAt 11am on 1-1-11 Seth hit the trail. I have some pix of his send off, but he will have to post them when he makes it home for a rest on the way.
